Four Inmates Transferred from Barranquilla Prisons; One Suspected Hitman Smiled in Police Photo

Barranquilla authorities have transferred four inmates from the El Bosque prison to other facilities across the country. These individuals are reportedly linked to organized crime, including involvement in homicide, theft, and extortion.

Mayor Alejandro Char confirmed the operation, emphasizing that "authority and justice are respected in Barranquilla." He stated that the local administration, in collaboration with the Inpec, police, prosecutor's office, and the judiciary, will maintain pressure on those who threaten citizen security. "We will not lower our guard against crime," Char asserted.

Among the transferred inmates is Kenner Arley Russo Romero, identified by authorities as a suspected hitman for the criminal group 'Los Pepes.' Russo Romero was previously arrested in November 2024 in connection with the murder of a parking lot security guard. His capture gained significant public attention due to a widely circulated police mugshot in which he appeared to be smiling.

The transfers follow a larger operation on August 25, which saw 20 inmates linked to 'Los Costeños' and 'Los Pepes' moved from police stations and detention centers in the Atlántico capital. These ongoing movements highlight the authorities' commitment to disrupting criminal networks operating within the city.
