Four killed, 20 injured in Russian strikes on Kharkiv

Four people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a series of Russian missile and drone strikes targeting Ukraine's Kharkiv region. Officials reported the casualties on Tuesday morning, with the attacks hitting both the regional capital and the town of Chuhuiv in the northeast.

In Chuhuiv, two men aged 70 and 56, and two women aged 22 and 70, lost their lives. The regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, shared images of a destroyed apartment building engulfed in flames. An overnight drone attack on Kharkiv city injured 15 people, including three children, who required medical attention. Additionally, six people were injured in Chuhuiv itself, according to the town's mayor.

These latest strikes occur amidst heightened military activity between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently called for an end to the conflict and proposed direct dialogue, with active participation from the US and Europe. These calls for peace talks came as Zelenskyy was returning from discussions in London with leaders from Britain, France, and Germany, who expressed readiness to support ceasefire negotiations. Zelenskyy also described a "positive" conversation with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding settlement efforts.

Separately, in Sevastopol, Crimea, which Russia annexed, authorities reported repelling drone attacks. In Zaporizhzhia, a missile strike resulted in two deaths and 23 wounded, according to the regional governor. These events follow a pattern of intensified strikes by both sides in recent weeks, with Russia employing Oreshnik missiles and Ukraine targeting Russian energy infrastructure.
