Four killed, five injured in highway collision in Cox's Bazar

A tragic head-on collision on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway has resulted in the deaths of four passengers and serious injuries to at least five others. The accident occurred early this morning, around 6:30 a.m., in the Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar district.

The collision involved a bus belonging to Lal Sobuj Paribahan, which was traveling from Noakhali Sadar towards Cox's Bazar, and a Laguna vehicle carrying passengers. The Laguna was en route from Eidgaon towards Chakaria when the two vehicles impacted violently.

Sub-Inspector Mohammad Samsuzzaman, in charge of the Malumghat Highway Police Outpost, reported that the deceased have been identified as Md Jasim Uddin, 27, Md Shahed, 27, Mohammad Rafiq, 28, and Md Jiabul Haque, 25. The victims were from various localities within Khutakhali and Eidgaon.

The accident occurred around 6:30am on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway, near Nayapara Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Khutakhali union of the upazila, said Sub-Inspector Mohammad Samsuzzaman, in charge of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost.

Following the crash, the Laguna was severely mangled, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents and emergency responders worked to rescue the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals, including Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital and Christian Memorial Hospital in Malumghat. Three passengers died while receiving treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, and one succumbed to injuries at Christian Memorial Hospital.

Police have taken possession of both the bus and the Laguna involved in the incident. Legal procedures are ongoing, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
