Francesco Totti Joins Maxima Roma Basketball Club as Adviser

Francesco Totti is taking on a new role in Rome’s sporting life, joining the new Maxima Roma basketball club as an adviser and counsellor.

I wanted new stimuli and felt the desire to test myself by accepting a new challenge. The role and, above all, the project they proposed convinced me from the very beginning.

The former Roma football captain will also serve as the club’s delegate for fan-base development and corporate social responsibility. Totti said he wanted “new stimuli” and felt ready for a fresh challenge after being persuaded by the role and the project.

The club was created after Italian-American investor Paul Matiasic bought the sporting title of Pallacanestro Brescia, a top-flight team, and moved it to Rome for the 2026-27 season. Maxima Roma will play in Serie A and the EuroCup, with ambitions of becoming a force in Italy and Europe.

Ambition is important, but the desire to build something that can last over time is even more important: we want to give Rome and Romans a basketball team to support, identify with and feel proud of.

Totti’s appointment reflects his standing as a symbol of Rome, according to the club. Maxima Roma will nevertheless face competition in the capital from Basketball Club Roma SPQR, which counts Luka Doncic as an investor and Sergio Scariolo as an adviser. Both clubs will play in the EuroCup, and their first Serie A derby is scheduled for Oct. 11, after the league season begins on Sept. 27. Maxima Roma’s EuroCup opponents include Venezia, Cluj, Ankara, Tenerife, Siauliai, London Lions and Frankfurt.
