Frankfurt sign Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika

German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt has bolstered its midfield with the signing of Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika from Belgian champions Club Brugge.

The 25-year-old midfielder has penned a contract with Frankfurt that runs until June 2031. Onyedika arrives in Germany after a successful four-season spell with Club Brugge, where he joined from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2022. During his time in Belgium, he established himself as Brugge's primary defensive midfielder, contributing to two Belgian Pro League titles and making 24 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

Markus Krösche, Frankfurt's board member for sport, lauded Onyedika's attributes, stating, "Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad."

Onyedika's strong performances in Belgium also led to his senior debut for Nigeria in late 2022. He has since accumulated 26 caps and scored three goals for the Super Eagles. Frankfurt anticipates that Onyedika will strengthen their midfield as they aim for a return to the Champions League under head coach Adi Hütter. His debut could come in the DFB-Pokal on August 21, followed by the Bundesliga opener on August 29.
