Fraud officials charge another over alleged $5 million NDIS dishonesty plot

An alleged $5 million dishonesty plot against Australia's National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has led to further charges, with a 38-year-old Adelaide man arrested and charged by Australian Federal Police (AFP). The man, identified as a director of a registered NDIS provider, was apprehended at Adelaide Airport on Friday as he was preparing to depart the country.

The investigation, spearheaded by the federal government's Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT), began in March after the NDIA discovered unauthorized access to protected records of NDIS participants. This latest arrest is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle the alleged fraud ring.

In June, a 48-year-old woman became the first individual charged in connection with the same alleged plot. That arrest followed searches of premises in Adelaide's northern suburbs, including a business in Prospect and homes in Mawson Lakes and Blakeview.

The AFP has charged the man with one count of dealing with the proceeds of crime, specifically funds fraudulently claimed from the NDIS. He also faces a charge of soliciting protected agency information from a National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) staff member. These offenses carry significant potential penalties, with maximum sentences of 25 years and 2 years imprisonment, respectively. The man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
