Massachusetts mother on trial for allegedly killing her three children

A Massachusetts mother, Lindsay Clancy, faces trial for the alleged murder of her three young children in January 2023, a case that has brought the complexities of postpartum mental health to the forefront.

However, in the months following the birth of her third child, Callan, her mental state reportedly deteriorated significantly. Her sister observed impulsive behavior, and Clancy began experiencing severe anxiety, depression, insomnia, and panic attacks. She reported feeling unable to distinguish reality from unreality and suffered from "crazy brain fog."

Despite seeking psychiatric care and being prescribed multiple medications, including Zoloft, Ativan, Benadryl, Prozac, Ambien, Remeron, and Klonopin, her condition worsened. Court documents revealed diary entries where she expressed obsession with her baby's sleep schedule and overwhelming anxiety. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, testified that in the days leading up to the killings, her mood seemed to improve, describing January 24, 2023, as "one of her best days."
