Frederiksen Thanks Starmer, Welcomes New UK Prime Minister Burnham

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has officially acknowledged the change in leadership in the United Kingdom, extending thanks to outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer while welcoming his successor, Andy Burnham. Frederiksen conveyed her gratitude to Starmer for their close collaboration and his dedicated work on Ukraine and European security during his tenure.

"Thank you, Keir – my dear friend – for our close cooperation and your tireless efforts for Ukraine and European security over the past years," Frederiksen stated in a message shared by the Prime Minister's Office on X.

Looking ahead, Frederiksen expressed her eagerness to work with the new British prime minister. "Furthermore, I would like to warmly welcome Andy Burnham. I look forward to our cooperation and to continuing the close partnership between our countries," she added.

Keir Starmer's departure from the premiership follows his announcement last month of his intention to step down as leader of the Labour Party and as prime minister. Andy Burnham, who was elected to the UK Parliament in June, previously served as the mayor of Greater Manchester before entering national politics.
