Freetown Collective set to power Hookie Weekend 2026

The acclaimed musical duo Freetown Collective is set to headline Hookie Weekend 2026, a vibrant Caribbean festival taking place in Washington, D.C., from June 18 to 22. Known for their popular songs such as “Feel the Love” and “Kaya,” Muhammad Muwakil and Lou Lyons will bring their distinctive sound to the festival's opening event, Release Therapy, held at Ivy City Smokehouse.

The festival promises a dynamic lineup of events designed to immerse attendees in Caribbean culture and celebration. Hookie Weekend's signature event, Lion’s Pride J’ouvert, is scheduled for June 20, promising an explosion of paint, powder, water, and foam. Following this, the festival will move to Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland on June 19 and 20 for large-scale road experiences, including Riddim & Glow and another iteration of Lion’s Pride J’ouvert.

Riddim & Glow will offer a neon-themed soca experience, complete with music trucks, DJs, and an inclusive drinks atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the festival's energy by wearing Monday wear or past Carnival costumes. The organizers emphasize the importance of immersing oneself in the music and celebratory spirit throughout the weekend.

Lion’s Pride J’ouvert returns with its characteristic elements of paint, powder, foam, and water, all set to the rhythm of music trucks. This year's theme, "Titans of Soca," draws inspiration from Greek mythology, inviting revellers to fully engage with the spectacle and energy of Carnival culture.
