King Charles and Marco Rubio congratulate Trinidad and Tobago on independence

King Charles III and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have both congratulated Trinidad and Tobago as the country marks 64 years of independence, with India’s foreign minister also sending greetings.

On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

In a message to President Christine Kangaloo shared by the British High Commission, Charles described the relationship between the two countries as an enduring partnership rooted in shared values and mutual respect. He also noted that Britain is home to a community of 25,000 Trinbagonians.

The King recalled his 2008 visit to Trinidad and Tobago and its “remarkable biodiversity.” He welcomed the country’s efforts to strengthen climate resilience and promote environmental stewardship, and said he looked forward to closer cooperation on those challenges. Charles also pointed to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November as an opportunity to reaffirm shared commitments.

Rubio said the United States and Trinidad and Tobago had a long-standing partnership focused on regional prosperity. He cited joint work to combat transnational crime, strengthen regional security, and support energy resilience and cooperation.
