French cyclist robbed in Greece after GPS error leads him into Roma camp

A 22-year-old French cyclist named Andri had his European tour violently interrupted when his GPS led him into a Roma camp in Menidi, Greece, where he was robbed.

Andri, who embarked on his ambitious seven-month cycling journey across Europe, found his trip taking a nightmarish turn upon arriving in Greece. His GPS directed him into the Roma settlement of Agia Sotira in Menidi, an area that quickly became a scene of distress.

"Yesterday morning I was in Thebes and was going to Athens. The GPS put me in a Roma camp, without me knowing," Andri told Star TV. He described being surrounded by about five or six individuals, with three more approaching from behind. They stole his bag, which contained his mobile phone.

Left alone without his phone and in an unfamiliar environment, Andri received assistance from a passerby, who helped him reach the Menidi police station to report the incident. Police officers from the Menidi Security Department gathered descriptions of the assailants and accompanied Andri back to the camp to identify those involved and recover the stolen items.

Despite this harrowing experience, Andri plans to continue his journey. Having already cycled through half of Europe and gathered numerous experiences, he stated that Menidi will forever be etched in his memory.
