French government dismisses heatwave concerns for July 14th parade

Speculation that France's annual July 14th Bastille Day military parade might be postponed due to record-breaking heatwaves has been firmly dismissed by the government. Maud Bregeon, the government's spokesperson, stated on Wednesday that there is currently no plan to alter the event's schedule. "At this stage, there is no question of changing the arrangements for July 14th for a simple reason: I cannot tell you what the temperature will be on July 14th," Bregeon said during a press briefing following a cabinet meeting.

She addressed reports suggesting that some government officials were considering a postponement, attributing such claims to "a bit of extrapolation." Bregeon emphasized the government's role in anticipating various scenarios for upcoming national events without causing alarm. "The role of the state is to anticipate all scenarios without being alarmist or frightening anyone, but to ensure that today, tomorrow, and in 15 days, emergency services are available and there are no tensions in hospitals."

The focus remains on ensuring the availability of emergency services and preventing strain on the healthcare system during the exceptional heat.
