French Physiotherapists to Conduct Preventive Health Checks

Physiotherapists in France are set to expand their role in public health, joining pharmacists and nurses in conducting preventive health assessments. Starting in October, these healthcare professionals will be authorized to perform consultations focused on prevention at four critical age milestones.

This initiative is part of a broader program introduced almost two years ago with the primary objective of enhancing the early detection of chronic diseases and addictive behaviors. By empowering physiotherapists to conduct these assessments, the healthcare system aims to identify potential health issues sooner and intervene more effectively.

Furthermore, the program is designed to provide much-needed support to general practitioners. In areas facing shortages of doctors, often referred to as "medical deserts," these preventive consultations by physiotherapists can help alleviate the pressure on primary care physicians, allowing them to focus on more complex cases.

The expansion of physiotherapists' responsibilities reflects a strategic effort to optimize healthcare resources and improve patient outcomes across France. It signifies a move towards a more integrated and proactive approach to health management.
