Fresh Russian Strikes Hit Ukraine Ahead of NATO Talks

Russia intensified its attacks on Ukraine overnight, with strikes killing at least two people and wounding several more across the country. The renewed assaults come just ahead of a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Ankara.

In the capital, Kyiv, a large blast was heard before air raid sirens sounded, followed by a barrage of missile strikes. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that warehouses were set ablaze in one district and a non-residential building in another. The state emergency service confirmed two people were wounded in the capital.

Further casualties were reported in other regions. In the southern Mykolaiv region, a mother and daughter were killed, and two others wounded, by guided aerial bombs. Dnipropetrovsk reported four wounded from drone and artillery attacks, while Zaporizhzhia confirmed two wounded from a Russian strike. In northeastern Ukraine, Kharkiv's mayor stated two people were injured.

Meanwhile, in Russia, the governor of Saratov region reported one person killed in a Ukrainian drone attack. This escalation follows a day of intense Russian strikes on Monday, which included multiple missile hits on Kyiv and resulted in 30 deaths in Ukraine.

President Zelensky has been urging Ukraine's international partners to increase support for the country's air defense systems. Ukraine is struggling with a critical shortage of interceptors, particularly to counter Russia's growing reliance on ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv. While Ukraine can effectively counter drone attacks, its defenses are strained against this newer missile strategy.
