Frieda and Matheo Top Saxony's Baby Name Rankings for 2025

Frieda and Matheo have claimed the top spots as the most popular baby names in the German state of Saxony for 2025. Both names saw a significant jump, moving from third place to first in the rankings. This shift marks a change from the previous year when Mia and Emil held the leading positions.

The Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache (GfdS), or German Language Society, compiled the list based on data from approximately 750 registry offices. The collected information covered nearly 830,000 name registrations, representing about 91% of all names given to babies in Germany in 2025. Alternative spellings were included in the count.

For girls, Mathilda and Hanna secured the second and third places, respectively. Among boys, Emil and Noah followed Matheo, taking the second and third positions. These rankings reflect evolving naming trends within the state.

Nationally, Sophia and Noah continue to be the most favored names for newborns across Germany. The GfdS has been publishing its annual ranking of the most common first names in Germany since 1977, providing a consistent overview of naming preferences.
