South Korean police have publicly disclosed the personal information of Jung Jae-hwan, a 24-year-old man accused of a brutal murder. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on November 16 that Jung's name, age, and mugshot would be posted on their website for 30 days. This decision follows Jung's appeal against the initial disclosure order.

The police's decision to release Jung's information was made after a deliberation committee reviewed the case. They cited the severity and brutality of the crime, the sufficiency of evidence, and the need for public interest in crime prevention as reasons for the disclosure. Jung was arrested and sent to prosecutors on charges of murder after allegedly stabbing his friend to death in an apartment on November 15.

According to the investigation, Jung is accused of stabbing his friend dozens of times with a weapon on November 4 while they were drinking together at Jung's apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan-si. Following the alleged attack, Jung reportedly left the scene naked and covered in blood, wandering the streets for about an hour before returning home, where he was apprehended by police. Jung has claimed to have no memory of the events due to intoxication.

The victim's family has filed a complaint requesting that charges of desecrating a corpse be added to Jung's case. They also released CCTV footage and a statement on November 13, alleging that police failed to immediately apprehend Jung when they encountered him, despite him being covered in blood and wandering the streets for an hour after the crime. The family is demanding an investigation into the police's initial response.
