From Angkot Driver to Civil Servant: UNM Alumnus Proves Dreams Can Come True

Maksin Sinaga's journey from a humble background to a civil servant position at the Ministry of Agraria and Tata Ruang/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) in Jakarta is a testament to the power of perseverance and education. Sinaga, an alumnus of Universitas Nusa Mandiri's Information Systems program, navigated a path marked by financial constraints and personal tragedy.

He began with a series of challenging jobs, including driving an angkot (public minivan), teaching English, and working as a cleaner, all while harboring a passion for technology. His determination to pursue higher education in Information Systems at UNM, a Digital Business Campus, became a turning point. During his studies, he actively enhanced his IT skills through training and self-study, even as he faced the profound loss of his mother.

Upon graduating, Sinaga started his career in IT support before successfully becoming a civil servant in 2019. In his current role as a First Expert Functional Officer in the General Bureau and Procurement Services at ATR/BPN, he plays a crucial part in ensuring professional, transparent, and accountable procurement services. His contributions include identifying and resolving technical issues within the service systems, ensuring optimal public service delivery.

Sinaga credits his UNM education as the foundational element of his career success. The university not only equipped him with technical expertise in information systems but also instilled values of integrity and a strong work ethic, enabling him to achieve his aspirations and contribute meaningfully to public administration.
