Vozinha captured international attention on June 15 when he helped Cape Verde draw 0-0 with Spain, in the country's first World Cup match. Cape Verde then drew 2-2 with Uruguay and 0-0 with Saudi Arabia before meeting Lionel Messi's Argentina in the round of 32. Vozinha was named player of the match against Spain and was selected among the tournament's best goalkeepers.

His professional career began at age 25 with Angola's Progresso. He later played for clubs in Moldova, Cyprus, Slovakia and Portugal. His last club was Chaves in Portugal's second division, where he played for two years before becoming a free agent.
