From street dance to an international ballet career, Ogmios Miestas clubs await young dancers

A child’s dance journey can begin with nothing more than a wish to move, feel the music and take a first step. At Ogmios Miestas in Vilnius, that first step can lead to beginner dance groups, competitions, performances or a structured path toward the stage.

Dance club Judesys is forming both advanced and new beginner groups this season. Its students will work on dance technique, coordination, rhythm, posture and self-confidence. They will also have opportunities to perform at events and test themselves in competitions.

In the new season, we are forming not only advanced groups but also new beginner groups.

Club director Edgaras Nesterovas says the aim extends beyond physical training. He describes dance as a way for children to develop discipline, friendship and teamwork while becoming more active and confident. Adults can also join line-dance, Solo Latino and ballroom-dance groups.

We believe that dance develops not only the body but also the personality.

Classical ballet offers a more structured route. The Lithuanian International Ballet Academy, based at Ogmios Miestas, is starting its 17th season with classes for children from age four, adults, recreational students and pupils seeking academic ballet training. Children can choose ballet as a hobby or follow a progressive programme based on age, ability and goals.

Founder and director Kristina Sliesoraitienė says the academy offers both a recreational and a professional direction. Students can take part in competitions, performances, summer camps and seminars. Children with exceptional ability and stage potential can join the Theatre Class connected to Anželika Cholina’s dance theatre, gaining further performance experience at A|CH and other Lithuanian theatres.

Our main difference is the opportunity to provide focused and consistent education. For some, ballet is a beautiful hobby; for others, it is a path to a professional stage. We offer both directions.

For Sliesoraitienė, ballet’s value does not depend on whether a student becomes a professional dancer. Training also develops posture, discipline, cultural and aesthetic awareness, confidence and the ability to overcome stage fright. Ogmios Miestas offers more than 35 after-school activities, giving families options to help children spend their time actively, discover talents and find an activity they look forward to.

What matters most to me is that every child leaves the ballet school stronger, braver and culturally richer, regardless of whether their future is on a professional stage or on an entirely different path.
