FRSC deploys 2,500 personnel, 50 vehicles for Osun poll

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles to Osun State in preparation for the upcoming governorship election. This significant deployment covers all three senatorial districts and operational areas within the state, aiming to guarantee effective traffic management, swift emergency response, the clearance of road obstructions, and the enforcement of movement restrictions during the election period.

Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities.

The FRSC's deployment includes 2,300 personnel from the Osun Sector Command, supplemented by 50 personnel each from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Ogun sector commands. The operational vehicles are equipped with seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, strategically positioned to facilitate rescue operations and emergency responses. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed stated that this deployment is part of the agency's commitment to supporting a peaceful, safe, and credible electoral process within its statutory mandate.

Mohammed emphasized that FRSC personnel will execute their duties with "strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights." They will collaborate closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies. The Corps will also certify vehicles provided by fleet operators for transporting electoral materials, ensuring they meet prescribed safety standards and are roadworthy.

FRSC personnel would operate with “strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights,” while working with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies.

Furthermore, the FRSC will conduct a Train-the-Trainer workshop to enhance the capacity of deployed personnel, involving representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The Corps will strictly enforce the movement restriction order in designated areas, with enforcement vehicles commencing deployment at 0600HRS on election day. Motorists and road users are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with traffic directives.

Vehicles earmarked for enforcement of the restriction will commence deployment from 0600HRS on Saturday, 15 August 2026, with personnel positioned at strategic locations across the State.
