Fuel leak in Epazoyucan, Hidalgo; 15 evacuated

Approximately 15 residents were evacuated from the town of Xolostitla in Epazoyucan, Hidalgo, after a fuel leak was detected early Wednesday morning. The incident prompted an immediate response from municipal Civil Protection, which received an alert about a strong fuel odor around 1 a.m.

Authorities, including Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), are working to contain the leak. Municipal officials indicated that the situation is expected to be fully under control by the afternoon. However, the area around the leak on Morelos street remains cordoned off, and residents are advised to stay away.

Six families, totaling about 15 individuals, were asked to leave their homes as a precautionary measure due to the proximity of the leak. Some have relocated to stay with relatives, while others are being sheltered in the locality. The risk has reportedly diminished, but it remains present, preventing residents from returning to their homes for now.

This incident follows a similar event just last week in the same locality, where an underground pipeline leak caused a fire, also necessitating evacuations. During the efforts to control that previous leak, two Pemex employees sustained burn injuries.
