Morelos Prosecutor Secures 14 Reparation Agreements Over Gas Explosion in Cuernavaca; 66 Damage and Injury Claims Filed

The Morelos State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has finalized the first 14 reparation agreements for individuals affected by a significant gas explosion in the Las Granjas neighborhood of Cuernavaca. These agreements were facilitated through the Alternative Justice Center and the Early Attention Unit, involving victims and the gas company Tomza Gas Titanium S.A.

State Attorney General Fernando Blumenkron Escobar has directed his staff to expedite these reparation agreements, ensuring that victims' rights are upheld with institutional support. The FGE is simultaneously pursuing ministerial investigations to ascertain the explosion's root causes and establish legal accountability, aiming to deliver justice for those impacted.

So far, the FGE reports 66 formal complaints have been filed. These include 41 for property damage, 18 for injuries, six encompassing both injuries and damages, and one for culpable homicide. A total of 16 individuals sustained injuries, with one fatality. While 11 injured individuals have been discharged, four remain hospitalized, including one in Mexico City, one in Texas, USA, and two in Cuernavaca.

This update from the FGE comes a day after Eduardo Núñez Morales, legal advisor for the Herrera family, one of the affected parties, publicly criticized the company's alleged lack of response regarding reparations and medical expense coverage through its insurance policy. He stated that this inaction has complicated the recovery process for some victims.
