Fuel prices rose due to more expensive refined products during Iran conflict, NPA CEO reveals

Fuel prices in Ghana saw an increase, a situation that baffled many consumers given the simultaneous drop in global crude oil prices. However, National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer Edudzi Tameklo has clarified the reasons behind the hike.

Tameklo explained that the surge in fuel costs was not directly linked to crude oil prices but rather to the escalating prices of refined petroleum products. This increase in refined product costs occurred during a period of heightened geopolitical tension, specifically referencing the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Speaking on Joy FM, Tameklo highlighted the complex dynamics of the global energy market. He noted that while crude oil prices might have fallen, the cost of processing and refining that oil into usable fuel products rose sharply. This divergence in market forces directly impacted the prices consumers faced at the pump in Ghana.
