Fugitive in Rp7 billion coal fraud case arrested in Indonesia

Authorities have arrested Richard Arief Muljadi, a fugitive wanted in connection with a Rp7 billion coal business fraud case in South Kalimantan. The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) announced his capture at Soekarno Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, as he returned from Singapore on Saturday, June 20.

According to Anang Supriatna, Head of the Legal Information Center at Kejagung, Muljadi was cooperative during his apprehension, ensuring a smooth process. Muljadi is accused of defrauding business partners, causing losses amounting to Rp7 billion. He is charged under Articles 378 and 372, in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum penalty of eight years imprisonment.

Muljadi had previously been declared a fugitive by the South Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office after failing to appear for his trial. His case file had been transferred for prosecution, but his absence led to his inclusion on the wanted list. Following his arrest, Muljadi was handed over to the Banjarmasin District Prosecutor's Office for further legal proceedings.

Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanudin has urged his staff to actively monitor and apprehend all remaining fugitives to ensure legal certainty. He also issued a public appeal to all individuals on the Prosecutor's Office's wanted list to surrender voluntarily, emphasizing that there is no safe hiding place for those evading justice.
