Fugitive with loaded gun and arsenal of weapons arrested after drug-fueled police chase

A fugitive wanted for firearms and drug offenses was apprehended in Taichung after a dramatic chase that involved ramming police cars and ended in a crash. The suspect, identified by the surname Chen, was found to be driving under the influence of drugs.

During the pursuit, Chen attempted to evade capture by accelerating and colliding with police vehicles. The chase concluded when his car lost control and struck a roadside tree, causing significant damage to the vehicle. Upon arrest, officers discovered a loaded handgun concealed in Chen's pants. A subsequent search of his car revealed an arsenal of illegal weapons, including a modified submachine gun, three modified handguns, dozens of bullets, and a variety of narcotics such as marijuana, MDMA, amphetamines, nitrazepam, and etomidate.

The Taichung District Court found Chen guilty of multiple charges, including illegal possession of firearms and drugs. The court emphasized the severe danger he posed to public safety by driving while intoxicated and by attempting to break through police lines. He was sentenced to a combined term of 7 years and 8 months imprisonment, with the possibility of appeal.
