Fujimori and Peña renew 'historic bilateral ties' between Peru and Paraguay

Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori and Paraguay's President Santiago Peña met to renew what they called "historic bilateral ties" between their nations. The meeting took place just hours before Fujimori's presidential inauguration, marking her return to the political forefront.

During their discussion at the Palace of Torre Tagle, the seat of Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fujimori and Peña, along with Peru's designated Foreign Minister Carlos Espá, reviewed key aspects of their shared agenda. Topics included regional integration, citizen security, natural disaster response, public transportation, and reforestation efforts.

Paraguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement extending fraternal greetings to Peru on its Independence Day. The ministry reaffirmed Paraguay's commitment to strengthening ties, particularly in regional security, economic integration, and investments, especially as Peru begins a new presidential term.

Peña traveled to Lima for Fujimori's inauguration and planned to hold bilateral and business meetings in Peru. He was scheduled to continue to Ecuador for his first state visit there since taking office in August 2023. Several other regional leaders, including Argentina's Javier Milei and Spain's King Felipe VI, were also expected to attend Fujimori's swearing-in ceremony.
