Fulani Dam spillway 95% complete - Contractor

Construction of a second spillway for the Fulani Dam in Ghana's Adentan Municipality is nearing completion, with the contractor reporting 95% of the work done. The project, managed by Messrs Wordsworth Universal Limited, is designed to channel excess water from the Mamahuma Stream, mitigating flood risks in the area.

The project could be completed by the end of July, provided funds were released by the end of the week, adding that he had already submitted his claims.

Mr. Mawuli Ashiagbor, the contractor, informed officials during a site visit that the project could be finished by the end of July if funds are released promptly. The main construction, including the deck, is complete. Remaining tasks involve dredging the spillway entrance to improve water flow and surface dressing the access road.

The intervention follows a severe flood on May 25 last year, which displaced over 480 residents, destroyed property, and swept away cattle. That incident necessitated reinforcing the dam's buffer road with boulders and gravel. The decision to build a second spillway was crucial to prevent future overflows during heavy rainstorms.
