Fulham sign Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid

Premier League club Fulham has secured the signing of Spanish striker Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid. The 22-year-old forward reunites with his former coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who recently took the helm at Fulham.

Garcia enjoyed his most productive season last term with Real Madrid, netting eight goals, six of which were in La Liga. His tally included a hat-trick against Real Betis in January. He has signed a contract with Fulham that runs until 2031, with an option for a further year's extension.

Spanish media reports suggest the transfer fee was around 40 million euros ($46 million). Real Madrid is understood to have retained a 30% sell-on clause for the player. Garcia was not the only young Spanish talent to move from Madrid to west London; attacking midfielder Cesar Palacios, 21, also joined Fulham after breaking into the Real first team under Arbeloa.

Real Madrid, now managed by Jose Mourinho, is undergoing a squad overhaul after two consecutive seasons without a major trophy.
