Funeral for fallen OPP officer Tarun Bali set to take place this week

The funeral for Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali, who died last week, is set to take place this Thursday morning at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre. Bali, 29, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the town of Hearst, located in northern Ontario, while officers were in the process of an investigation.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Bali's death. Police have shared further details about Bali's life, noting he was born in Naya Nangal, India, a town situated approximately 358 kilometers north of New Delhi. He is remembered as a "dedicated, enthusiastic officer" who also volunteered and was proficient in multiple languages, including Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu.

The service will not be open to the public. However, Bali's family, fellow police officers, military members, and other dignitaries are expected to attend. The OPP has announced a designated area where the public can view the procession and the funeral service via livestream, allowing for a shared moment of remembrance.
