GAA overwhelmingly agrees to maintain Allianz sponsorship deal

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) has overwhelmingly decided to continue its sponsorship agreement with Allianz, following a comprehensive discussion by its Central Council and Management Committee. This decision endorses the recommendation made by the Ethics and Integrity Commission (EIC) in December to maintain the partnership.

The move comes after a period of controversy, with several county boards having passed motions at their conventions requesting the removal of Allianz as a sponsor. The insurance group's German parent company was named in a report by UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese regarding human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This connection had previously led to protests, including a disruption at February's Annual Congress in Croke Park.

Meetings of the Management Committee and Central Council on Friday and Saturday respectively revisited the issue after receiving correspondence from Coiste Chontae Thír Eoghain. Ultimately, the governing bodies "overwhelmingly agreed to endorse the decision taken last December to adopt the recommendation of the Ethics and Integrity Commission report and to maintain this partnership."

In separate news, the GAA confirmed that SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host significant upcoming fixtures. These include the Republic of Ireland Women's World Cup play-off semi-final against Kazakhstan on October 13 and Munster's Investec Champions Cup clash with Racing 92 the following Saturday.
