Gaby López hosts tournament to boost Mexican junior golf

Mexican professional golfer Gaby López is spearheading the second "Gaby López Open 2026," an event designed to elevate junior golf across Mexico. The tournament, running from August 4 to 6 at the Club de Golf México, features over 120 young competitors vying for opportunities to connect with top U.S. collegiate golf programs.

Her core mission is to build a "bridge" to professionalism, instilling a professional mindset in young players from an early age. She believes that by providing them with high-level experiences and tools, they will be better prepared for the challenges of collegiate golf in the United States.

As a three-time winner on the LPGA Tour, López expressed her delight in connecting with young athletes who share her childhood aspirations. She aims to motivate them, demonstrating that success is achievable through hard work and strong belief. López emphasized that hosting a professional tournament like this is what she would have dreamed of as a child, making the path to a professional tour more accessible.

Everything starts with the idea that children believe they are professionals right now, that they have a higher level so that when they arrive in the United States, they have the tools and these scenarios do not make them feel small. One of my missions is to create that direct platform towards professionalism.

López, who has represented Mexico in three Olympic Games (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024), believes the "Gaby López Open 2026" will inspire the upcoming generation. She sees the tournament as instrumental in expanding their dreams and fostering a strong pipeline of talent for Mexican golf. López, currently ranked 20th in the LPGA, is confident that this event serves as a gateway for future generations to develop and aspire to professional careers, ultimately strengthening Mexico's presence on major tours.
