Galați teen attacker, who stabbed man 7 times, was a promising footballer

A 15-year-old boy in Galați, who allegedly stabbed a 23-year-old man seven times in a park, was a promising young footballer who has since been expelled from his club. The incident occurred after the victim reportedly intervened to defend a child who was being threatened by a group of adolescents.

The teenager, whose identity is protected due to his age, was reportedly a good player for the 'Școala de Fotbal Oțelul Galați' youth academy. However, following the violent incident, the club has severed ties with him. "We have settled accounts with him, he is no longer part of the club! We don't accept this kind of thing. We do sports!" stated one of the club's owners, emphasizing that discipline and seriousness are paramount.

The young footballer had previously been selected for regional junior training sessions two years prior, indicating a potential career in the sport. His coach expressed shock at the severity of the events, noting that the teenager had not caused disciplinary issues during training or matches. The coach suggested that such behavior is often influenced by factors outside of sports, such as family and peer groups.

The victim sustained at least seven stab wounds, including to his chest, back, and head. One injury caused a pneumothorax, affecting his lung. He was hospitalized in serious condition but is now stable. Police identified the alleged attacker and other individuals involved in the incident.
