Garda charged with soliciting murder of woman, 3 children

A garda officer in his 30s has appeared before Dublin District Court charged with soliciting a person to murder a woman and three children. The officer, who was serving in the Dublin area, has been suspended from duty. Reporting restrictions imposed by Judge Darach McCarthy mean that neither the garda nor any of the alleged victims can be identified.

The charges state that in August 2021, the garda solicited an unknown person to murder the woman and three children, who also cannot be identified. Additionally, he faces charges of attempting to dishonestly induce the woman, by deception, to refrain from seeking financial support for a child between February 2019 and July 2020.

The investigation was conducted by the Garda Anti-Corruption Unit. The accused made no reply to the five charges when cautioned at Kevin Street Garda Station. Bail was not objected to, and he was released on his own bond of €300. The garda is scheduled to appear before the Central Criminal Court on September 25, when a book of evidence will be served. The Garda Anti-Corruption Unit had been investigating the activities of this member based in the Dublin Region.
