Garden and Tail

“Good morning! How did you sleep?” Garden greeted the large yellow cat stretching in the morning sun.

The cat, Tail, replied that he had barely slept at all. He had spent the night on guard, waiting for an impudent mouse that never appeared. Tail wanted to catch and beat the mouse because it wandered around, intruded where it was not wanted and stole food.

Garden questioned that reasoning. The mouse did not eat the same food, was small and needed only crumbs. There was room for everyone among the trees, grass, flowers, insects, birds and other creatures living there.

Tail insisted that a cat and a mouse could not coexist because they belonged to different worlds, species, cultures and customs. Garden challenged him to become the first cat to stop chasing the mouse and show others that different creatures could live peacefully. The story ends as Garden urges Tail to meet the mouse before judging him.
