Gas tank explosion in San Francisco de Macorís kills child, injures eight

A gas tank explosion at a food stall in San Francisco de Macorís on Sunday night has resulted in the death of one child and injuries to at least eight people. The incident occurred at the intersection of Libertad Avenue and Salcedo Street.

The child victim, whose name has not been released, succumbed to severe burns while being treated at the regional university children's hospital Arturo Grullón in Santiago. A young girl remains in delicate condition, and a 14-year-old adolescent was also hospitalized. Other injured individuals, including several adults, received initial treatment, with some being referred to hospitals in Santo Domingo due to the severity of their injuries.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Franklin Romero, the senator for Duarte province, visited the hospital to assess the situation and arrange support for those affected. He has reportedly contacted health officials to coordinate specialized care for adult patients in Santo Domingo.

The event has caused widespread distress among the residents of San Francisco de Macorís, who are mourning the loss of the young child.
