Gaza: Jared Kushner in Egypt to discuss peace plan

Jared Kushner, special envoy and son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the coastal city of El Alamein to discuss regional developments, particularly the Palestinian issue. The Egyptian presidency stated that both parties stressed the necessity of adhering to the commitments made in the October 2025 agreement reached in Sharm El Sheikh to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, Sisi highlighted the importance of jointly addressing common challenges and resolving regional crises to preserve stability in the Middle East. Kushner praised the close coordination between Egypt and the United States, as well as Egypt's efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, describing Egypt as a key U.S. partner in the Middle East, according to the statement.

Kushner also met with Turkish, Egyptian, and Qatari mediators in Cairo, aiming to push for the implementation of the White House's peace plan for Gaza. This comes as Israel continues its aerial offensive on the Palestinian enclave. Following his visit to Cairo, Kushner is expected to travel to the occupied territories to try to advance the implementation of the roadmap accepted by Hamas but rejected by Israel.

Sources indicated that Hamas leaders were present during some meetings between mediators and the American delegation led by Kushner and Nickolay Mladenov, the envoy for Gaza within Trump's peace team overseeing the ceasefire. The two men are scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has rejected the U.S. president's latest 15-point peace plan for Gaza.
