GB election results taking time to be finalised, but notification to be issued within 14 days: CEC

The finalization of results for the Gilgit-Baltistan elections is experiencing delays, primarily due to the time required to collect and consolidate data from remote areas. However, the region's Chief Election Commissioner, Raja Shahbaz Khan, assured the public on Thursday that the final notification of results will be issued within the legally mandated 14-day period.

According to a press release from the GB election commission, the election process itself concluded peacefully. Work is currently underway to finalize the results. Khan reiterated that while the process is taking time, adherence to Section 98 of the Election Act regarding the notification timeline will be maintained.

In addition to result finalization, the election commission is actively hearing nine petitions concerning the elections. Three petitions have already been heard, with the remaining ones scheduled for hearing on Friday. The commission expects this phase to be completed soon, aiming for a swift resolution of electoral disputes.
