GCC accuses Iran of dragging Middle East into chaos, demands deterrent measures

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has accused Iran of deliberately plunging the Middle East into chaos through its escalating attacks on neighboring Arab states and Jordan. The alliance urged the international community to implement "practical and deterrent measures" to curb Tehran's actions.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem al-Budaiwi specifically cited Iran's missile strikes against Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, which have intensified recently amid broader U.S.-Iran tensions. "Iran's treacherous attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan reveal its determination to drag the region into greater chaos and instability," Al-Budaiwi stated in a release. He characterized the attacks on infrastructure as a "dangerous escalation that the international community cannot ignore."

Al-Budaiwi warned that these "aggressions," particularly those targeting civilian infrastructure and vital facilities, pose a direct threat not only to the affected nations but also to the overall security of the region. He called for accountability for those responsible to preserve regional peace and prevent further conflict escalation. The GCC, comprising Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Oman, along with Jordan, are all U.S. allies with significant American military presence or defense agreements.

The international community must adopt practical and deterrent measures that guarantee the cessation of repeated Iranian attacks and hold those responsible accountable, in order to preserve regional security and peace and avoid further escalation of the conflict.
