Gellerbrant Dismisses SD Revelations as “Out-of-Context Information”

Gustav Gellerbrant, a senior Sweden Democrats official, has responded for the first time to reports about his partner's alleged connections to Russia. He described the material as "claims and out-of-context information" and said it was being used to cast suspicion on her because she was born in Russia.

Gellerbrant, who heads the party's coordination office in the Government Offices, said he would immediately take parental leave. To avoid shifting attention during the ongoing election campaign, he said he would deposit his access card and computer with the Government Offices.

The magazine Expo reported on Thursday that Gellerbrant's partner, who moved from Russia to Sweden in 2006, had allegedly spent more than a decade sharing articles and social media posts carrying Russian narratives. The material reportedly came from Russian state bodies, the RT news service and other channels known for Russian propaganda and disinformation. Expo also reported that she had praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Gellerbrant said one of her social media posts described February 24, 2022, the date of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as the worst day of her life. He accused Expo of publishing old posts without context and of trying to cast doubt on loyalties and vulnerabilities. He said he had been transparent during his security vetting by the Government Offices.

"The ongoing campaign against us has placed an inhuman strain on my family," Gellerbrant wrote. His partner is currently on parental leave. Gellerbrant is the Sweden Democrats' chief in the coordination office, where key issues under the Tidö Agreement are negotiated.
