Gendarme killed, two injured in road accident on G7 summit sidelines

A gendarme has died and two others were injured in a road accident in Haute-Savoie, France, on Saturday. The incident occurred near Fessy as the officers were involved in security duties related to the G7 summit being held in Evian.

According to a security source, a car veered into the path of a gendarmerie motorcycle column on a departmental road. The collision resulted in the death of the 38-year-old gendarme and injuries to two colleagues.

Over 14,000 police officers, gendarmes, and firefighters are mobilized to ensure the security of the G7 summit. The conference, running from Monday to Wednesday, will bring together leaders from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and host country France, along with the European Union.

Evian is hosting the G7 summit for the second time, having previously hosted it in 2003. The summit focuses on diplomatic and economic discussions among the world's leading industrial nations.
