General Revoredo says more than 12 detained over Trujillo killings: ‘Two fired the shots’

More than 12 people have been detained over the attack in Trujillo that left four people dead and ended with the kidnapping of gold trader Jenss Marty Lara Tantaquilla, according to General Víctor Revoredo, head of Peru’s Criminal Investigation Directorate, or Dirincri.

Speaking to RPP, Revoredo said two or three of those detained may have fired directly at the scene. Others allegedly supported the operation from different locations. “There are direct participants: two or three [fired] at the scene, others were collaborators elsewhere. We already have the hideout,” he said.

Revoredo said police would provide further details after the 15-day detention investigation period. The inquiry is still determining the precise role of each person arrested.

Police are also investigating the vehicle allegedly used in the attack. It carried license plate EPF-176, which the National Police said had been cloned. Authorities initially identified the vehicle’s original plate as BNG-906, but the head of the La Libertad police region later said that plate may also have been cloned. Revoredo said investigators would clarify those questions during the investigation. “We are on day six. On day 15, we will answer all of that,” he said.

With judicial authorization, police searched the property where Lara was allegedly held. Revoredo said it contained a basement adapted to keep a person captive. He added that the criminal organization Los Pulpos was “in the process of being dismantled” following the arrest of Jhonsson Cruz Torres, but said other alleged members and leaders still remain to be captured.
