George Clooney Family Evacuated as Wildfire Burns Near French Home

Hollywood star George Clooney and his family were forced to evacuate their estate in southeastern France as a wildfire raged nearby. The blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon near the town of Brignoles, located about 55 miles east of Marseille.

Clooney's publicist confirmed the evacuation, sharing a letter from the actor addressed to Didier Bremond, the mayor of Brignoles. In the letter, Clooney expressed uncertainty about the fate of their home but pledged the couple's commitment to helping the community recover. "we’ll be part of making it whole," the letter stated.

The fire consumed approximately 250 acres, a significantly smaller area compared to a larger inferno that recently affected the Bordeaux region. Local officials reported that around 700 residents were evacuated and subsequently allowed to return to their homes on Thursday after the fire was brought under control.

Despite the evacuation order being lifted, water-bombing helicopters remained deployed over the area. Weather conditions remained unfavorable, with high temperatures and the expectation of strong winds picking up later in the afternoon, posing continued risks. The Clooneys, who were awarded French citizenship in December, purchased their estate in Brignoles in 2021 and have been residing there with their twins.
