German mixed relay team wins gold at European Aquatics Championships

Germany's mixed relay team has secured a gold medal at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, adding another triumph to their impressive performance.

Newcomer Julia Ackermann, sprint winner Isabel Gose, and Olympic silver medalist Oliver Klemet all dove into the water before Florian Wellbrock. They handed Wellbrock a lead of more than eight seconds, setting the stage for his decisive leg.

This victory represents the fourth gold medal and fifth overall medal for the German open water team at the championships. The men's team, including Wellbrock, had surprisingly missed out on medals in the knockout sprint event on Friday.

Wellbrock concludes his Paris campaign as a dominant force in open water swimming. This performance contrasts with his experience at the Olympics two years prior in the same city, where he faced a "debacle" and missed out on medals in both pool and Seine events. However, he did not replicate his quadruple triumph from the previous year's World Championships in Singapore.
