German police enhance CSD security after Berlin attack

Following a religiously motivated terrorist attack at a Christopher Street Day (CSD) event in Berlin, police across North Rhine-Westphalia have intensified security measures for upcoming CSD celebrations.

Authorities in Bonn confirmed they reviewed and updated their threat assessments for the CSD parade, finding no indications of specific dangers. The police in Borken, responsible for the Ahaus CSD, stated they see no reason to dampen public enjoyment, assuring participants that police are continuously monitoring the situation and ready to respond.

Similarly, police in Wesel, covering Moers, acknowledged the Berlin events are being considered in their security planning. They are in close communication with organizers and regularly reassess the situation to ensure a peaceful celebration. Specific operational details and personnel numbers remain confidential for tactical reasons.

Interior Minister Herbert Reul announced that security concepts for CSD events nationwide are under review. He highlighted the abstractly high risk of Islamist attacks, which became concrete in Berlin, prompting heightened police sensitization. The minister stressed the need for vigilance while aiming to maintain the celebratory spirit of the CSD events.
