German police find 12 explosives near power stations in eastern Germany

Twelve homemade explosives were found near two power stations in eastern Germany, the latest in a series of incidents targeting the country’s energy infrastructure.

The devices were discovered after a citizen alerted authorities. They were located near the Bärwalde power station, close to Bautzen, and the Graustein station, near Görlitz. Regional judicial authorities reported the findings on Saturday.

Investigators believe the explosives were designed to cause short circuits and damage electricity lines. Bomb disposal experts neutralized the devices, and the high-voltage lines involved had to be switched off briefly during the operation. Authorities said they found no damage and that electricity supplies were not disrupted.
