German striker saves AGF from another Superliga low

AGF looked headed for another humiliating defeat at Vejlby after falling two goals behind against Silkeborg. Then substitute Janni Serra scored twice in the closing stages to rescue a 2-2 draw.

The point prevented AGF from suffering a fourth straight defeat across all competitions. It did little to ease the champions’ crisis, however. AGF remain without a win after seven matches, have collected only four points and sit second from bottom. Silkeborg are ninth after letting victory slip away.

AGF started with more energy despite a crowded schedule and created several early openings. Sebastian Jørgensen, James Bogere, Mikael Anderson and Rasmus Carstensen all threatened, with Carstensen missing a particularly good chance for the second time. Silkeborg survived the pressure before taking the lead at the other end.

Carstensen blocked a shot with his arm, and referee Lasse Graagaard awarded a penalty after a VAR review. Rami Al Hajj converted confidently for 1-0. Five minutes before halftime, Lucas Riisgaard broke clear and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to double Silkeborg’s lead. The home crowd responded with loud boos as the players left for the dressing room.

AGF coach Jakob Poulsen made two changes immediately after the break, bringing on Serra and Frederik Emmery. Serra soon missed a major chance, while Callum McCowatt, facing the club he had just left, also found a favorable position in the box without hitting the target.

Hope of a comeback faded until two minutes before the end of regular time. One of AGF’s many crosses found Serra, who headed in to make it 2-1. In the final minute, Silkeborg’s defense failed to clear danger, allowing Serra to turn and fire in the equalizer.

The late recovery spared AGF a new low, but the team’s poor start remains. Its next league match brings a rivalry game against Vålerenga, who will visit Åråsen the following weekend.
