German swimmer Liebmann smashes 1500m freestyle world record at European Championships

German swimmer Johannes Liebmann made history at the European Championships in Paris, shattering the world record in the 1500-meter freestyle. Liebmann dominated the race from the start, finishing with an impressive time of 14:26.79, almost four seconds faster than the previous world best. The silver medal in the event went to Hungary's Zalan Sarkany with a time of 14:39.45, while Germany's Oliver Klemet secured the bronze, clocking in at 14:40.64. The championships also saw strong performances in other events. In the 200-meter butterfly, home favorite Leon Marchand of France won gold with a time of 1:51.72, the fourth-fastest ever recorded in the discipline. Hungary's Richard Marton took silver, and Greece's Apostolos Siskos earned bronze. Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi claimed the 50-meter breaststroke title in 26.57 seconds, with his compatriot Simone Cerasuolo and the Netherlands' Koen de Groot sharing the silver. In a surprise result in the women's 50-meter freestyle, Poland's Katarzyna Maria Wasick won gold in 23.84 seconds, narrowly beating Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and Italy's Sara Curtis. Ellen Walshe of Ireland won the women's 200-meter individual medley in 2:09.81.
