German Weather Service offers Pride forecasts to promote diversity

The German Weather Service (DWD) is stepping beyond its usual meteorological duties to support the upcoming Christopher Street Day (CSD) events across ten German cities. The DWD's employee network, BUNT@DWD, will be providing current weather forecasts via the service's social media channels for CSD celebrations in Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Bonn, Cologne, Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Essen, and Frankfurt am Main.

This initiative, dubbed "CSD Weather," was first introduced in 2024 and aims to send a clear message of diversity and tolerance. The DWD emphasizes that diversity is a core value within the organization, fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued, regardless of gender, identity, ethnicity, nationality, religion, ability, or sexual orientation.

Participants attending the CSD events can expect detailed forecasts covering morning, noon, and evening. This practical support is intended to help attendees plan their day while simultaneously raising awareness for diversity issues. The DWD sees this as a way to contribute practically to the events and create attention for the importance of diversity.

The "CSD Weather" campaign was recognized in 2025 by the "Prout At Work-Foundation." The CSD itself commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City and advocates for the visibility and equal rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. The first CSD event this year will take place in Dresden.
