Germany braces for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail

Germany is on alert as the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts severe thunderstorms across much of the country. Residents can expect not only heavy rain but also the possibility of hail and damaging storm gusts. The southern and southeastern regions are particularly vulnerable to severe weather conditions.

Meteorologists predict that localized areas in southeastern Bavaria could experience intense downpours, with over 30 liters of rain per square meter. These regions may also face large hail and severe storm gusts, potentially reaching speeds of over 120 kilometers per hour, comparable to hurricane-force winds. While the initial focus is on the south, the storms are expected to move northward and eastward throughout the day.

By Friday afternoon, regions like Saxony could also be affected. The DWD anticipates that thunderstorms will continue into the night in the southeast of Bavaria, potentially lasting until the early hours of Saturday. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather situation. Temperatures are expected to range between 22 and 29 degrees Celsius, with the far southeast possibly reaching up to 32 degrees Celsius.
