Germany routs Finland 4-0 in final World Cup warm-up

Germany concluded their pre-World Cup friendly schedule with a convincing 4-0 win against Finland in Mainz. The match served as a final opportunity for coach Julian Nagelsmann to test his strategies before the team departs for the Americas, where they will face the United States in another friendly before the tournament kicks off.

Nagelsmann introduced a couple of surprises in the starting lineup, deploying Nathaniel Brown at left-back instead of the usual David Raum and Lennart Karl on the right wing. Despite a strong start, with an early chance for Deniz Undav, the German offense struggled to break down Finland's defense for much of the first half. Finland offered little in attack, with their most notable moment being a run by Kesknen in the 39th minute.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute from a corner. Karl played it short to Kimmich, who delivered the ball into the box for Undav to head home, seemingly unmarked. Germany doubled their lead shortly after halftime when Undav dispossessed a defender in the box, setting up Wirtz for a close-range finish.

Germany extended their advantage further in the second half. Karl hit the post in the 55th minute, and two minutes later, Undav completed his brace during a counter-attack, capitalizing on Finland's attempt to push forward. Musiala then sealed the comprehensive victory in the 64th minute with a left-footed strike. While Germany created further chances, Finland's goalkeeper Lukasz Hradecky made several saves to prevent a larger margin of defeat.
